ADVOCACY TO PROMOTE BEHAVIOUR CHANGE:
DCI Zimbabwe uses advocacy as a tool to promote behaviour change in children, parents ,caregiveres, community and policymakers.
These are actions we use to push for change in behaviour, policy fomulation and implimentation as we push for decisions that will positively influence children's lives. Taking its origins from the word advocare, A‘ call to one’s aid’ or to speak out on behalf of someone , as a legal counsellor.
Conceptually, advocacy fits into a range of our
activities that include organizing, lobbying and
campaigning.
DCI Zimbabwe Organize broad-based activities designed to ensure that the views represented in our campaigns come from those who are actually affected by the issue. We also use lobbying an action word derived from
the Latin word loggia, a room where one
would meet directly with decision makers to
engage in (often private) quality discussions
and debate. This action has helped us to influence change as it takes a more targeted approach and reaches out to policy makers.
We use awareness campaigns an action word with a Latin origin for campaigning " campus", the wider battlefield. Our advo-cacy campaign publicly promotes an agenda, involving platforms where a wide audience hear our campaign message.
ADVOCACY TO ACHIEVE QAULITY :
DCI Zimbabwe's advocacy is its core process for addressing inequity and disparities. We address inequity by bringing the issue of children and women's disparities to the forefront of the agenda for decision makers, by building awareness, visibility and public momentum behind the issue, and by improving access, cost and quality of programmes and services for disadvantaged children and women.
Central to our approach is obtaining disaggregated
data on who are the most disadvantaged and
excluded, gaining a deep understanding of the
root causes of the problem, and creating an
enabling environment so that the problem can
be addressed. This involves strengthening
the accountability of decision-makers to the
most disadvantaged children and women, and
supporting the most disadvantaged children
and women in claiming their rights.
DCI Zimbabwe's advocacy addresses underlying causes of the problems to achieve equity, and addresses issues of equity to solve underlying causes of problems being faced by children and women in Zimbabwe.
